The Bay Bridge is celebrating its 75th Anniversary!

75th Anniversary logo

The Bay Bridge opened to traffic 75 years ago on November 12, 1936. “The Year of the Bay Bridge” will last from November 2011 to November 2012, with a year’s worth of activities to celebrate this monumental structure. Stay tuned for upcoming events and check out our new history timeline to learn about the bridge’s 75 years of service. Also, join our Facebook page to share your historical memories and photos.

Check out our publicly-accessible outdoor display of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which features its history and the signature element of the new East Span, the Self-Anchored Suspension Span. Visitors to Treasure Island will be able to read and learn about the bridge at the display and online (thanks to QR tags embedded in the display), while the seismic retrofit of the bridge continues right before their eyes.

The Bay Lights is an iconic light sculpture designed for the Bay Bridge West Span by international artist Leo Villareal. Scheduled to be illuminated during the year of the 75th Anniversary.

Everything Indicates: Bay Bridge Poems & Portraits, is a book that was inspired by the Bay Bridge. For more information contact Tamsin Smith at
