Self-Anchored Suspension Span Update
Crews have been laying asphalt 12 hours a day, seven days a week to pave the steel roadway of the Self-Anchored Suspension Span. Each 2,280-foot-long deck section gets two one-inch layers of epoxy asphalt concrete, a highly durable material designed to last the lifetime of the bridge. Get a glimpse of the paving work here.
Watch how crews painted the main cable and its 200 steel-wire suspender ropes. White was selected by architects to reflect the container cranes found at the nearby Port of Oakland.
